New season new wreath! I have actually been really excited for this post, but it really did take me forever to make. Be forewarned. Instead of a step by step DIY, here are some helpful tips and tricks for making your own wine wreath.

  1. I used a 10″ foam wreath. Retrospectively, I probably should have purchased one of those branchy looking wreaths. The combination of the slick foam and cork required A LOT of hot glue. You could also probably rough up the foam before you start gluing.

2. Tell all of your friends you need wine corks! Most likely they’ll tell you they already have a huge ziplock bag full of corks at home, saved for some unknown project in the future. I probably used close to 200 corks on my little 10″ wreath. You can also go to a local winery, if you have one near you, and ask for corks.

3. This thing is HEAVY. I made the mistake of not putting the hanger on until the end, which required a lot of weaving and maneuvering wire around corks. Wrap some florist wire around your wreath form before gluing the corks on.

4. Lastly, have fun with it! I started out gluing the corks end to end which resulted in an overly sleek looking wreath. I then added a second layer of corks going every which way, and liked the look of that much better . Also, if you have any “sentimental” corks (I had a hand fil from my wine tasting trip in Argentina), save them until the very end. You never want to accidentally realize, oops!  I covered up the cork from the wine from my wedding day/promotion/vacation/last day of rehab”.
